| Fire destroys historic IBM building on Cottle Road |

IBM’s historic building 25 is gone. It’s the fourth historic building to go up in smoke in San Jose since last summer.
The three-alarm fire last Saturday destroyed IBM historic building 25, the birthplace of the flying head disk drive, which allowed real-time on-line transactions such as airline reservations.
More than 80 firefighters responded to the scene. The structure was built in 1957 and has been vacant for more than 10 years at the IBM complex on Cottle Road.

The Cat in the Hat comes to Vineland Library

Local kids were in for a treat last Saturday when Vineland Library celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a reading challenge and hullabaloo.
“This is our second year having the hullabaloo,” said Vineland Library’s Jane Cronkhite bedecked in a red and white hat and painted on feline face as the “Cat in the Hat” character. “We are celebrating the National Education Association’s tribute to Dr. Seuss with games, prizes, refreshments and reading by and to the children.
