The South Bay Guitar Society presents the Bulgarian classical guitar ensemble quartet, Triada. Performance time is 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Music Building, West Valley College, 14000 Vineland Ave, Saratoga. This brilliant classical guitar ensemble will present works by Atanas Radulov, Aram Katchaturian, Maurice Ravel, Bustamante and others. Tickets are $15. Charged Sites: Radka Donnell’s Art Quilts at the San Jose Museum of Quilts: This exhibit examines Donnell’s 40-year career in this first ever west coast retrospective. Bold and abstract, Donnell freely uses wildly printed fabric designs and unusual shapes to create original, improvisational works that break from the norm of traditional quilting. Admission is &6.50 general, $5 seniors/students w/ ID, free to members and children under 13. Location is 520 South First Street, San Jose. California Sports Center celebrates National Gymnastics Day: Six California Sports Center locations will host the Tyson Fitness Challenge, a joint initiative by USA Gymnastics and Tyson Foods and created under the guidance of fitness and nutrition experts. The Challenge has two goals: helping youth get more physically fit and helping kids who are fighting illnesses by raising money for Children’s Miracle Network. Beginning at 2 p.m., Parents bring preschool children ages 1 to 5 for 45 minutes of fun, supported by CSC staff. School-age girls and boys ages 6 - 16 can sign-up for a “Learn to Flip” Workshop, and receive instruction from high-level coaches. Activities are free and open to the public. Donations are welcome. At 2:45 pm, each facility will feature a gymnastics demonstration by members of CSC’s competitive gymnastics teams. At 3:00 pm CSC members and athletes of will run a Tyson Fitness Challenge. Similar to a walk-a-thon, but featuring gymnastics and fitness skills, kids between the ages of 3 and 18 will challenge themselves to complete as many repetitions as possible of their chosen fitness skill. “Falling into Autumn” children’s workshop: Autumn officially begins on Sept. 22 so fall into the season with us from 3:30 – 5 p.m. as we learn why leaves change colors and the reason for the seasons. Join Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens and make a leafy craft to take home, while discovering the science behind the beautiful colors of fall. Location is the Visitor & Education Center, 438 Coleman Ave, San Jose. Pre-registration is required and parents need not be present during the workshop. Class is designed for kids aged 5 – 10 years. Santa Teresa Catholic Church announces its Third Annual Parish Festival and Craft Fair: Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on 9/27 and from 11a.m. to 5p.m. on 9/28. Want to do something different this summer to help your community and get a free ice cream as a reward? The Heritage Rose Garden needs volunteers to snip all the dead roses in order to promote more bloom. Join us from 5:30 – 7 pm, with a sweet payoff at the end. No experience necessary. Bring your own clippers, or borrow one from the staff. It will be an enjoyable and rewarding way to spend a summer evening. The San Jose Heritage Rose Garden is located on Taylor Street, at Spring Street, just east of Coleman Avenue. Take a Ceramics Class this Fall! Enjoy something different by taking a hand-building clay class in a relaxing garden setting. The classes are very small in size so you can focus on growing as an individual with lots of personal attention from the instructor. Fall program will be on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m., and Wednesday mornings from 9-10:30 a.m.. The fee includes instruction, clay, glazes, use of tools, and all kiln firings. Northern California Renaissance Faire returns to Case de Fruta: This one of a kind event is hosted by Play Faire Productions will introduce visitors to the romantic and exciting world of 1490 and 1630.
