AVCS offers two fall classes

Cooperative parenting and divorce: ‘How to Parent as a Team when you are No Longer a Couple!’

Almaden Valley Counseling Service is now accepting registrations for its fall session of the “Cooperative Parenting & Divorce” class.

These classes are for parents who are either divorced or in the process of divorcing. The class focuses on reducing parental conflict, support for the parent, valuable tools on how to be an effective co-parent, and most importantly, how to help their child through this difficult process.

The class offers the following goals:

- To assist parents in shifting their roles from former spouses to co-parents
- To educate parents about children’s issues in divorce
- To educate parents regarding the impact of parental conflict on their children’ development
- To teach parents anger management, communication and conflict-resolution skills
- The group format provides support and information for parents going through this difficult time.

This eight-week course will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 – 9:15 p.m. starting Tuesday, Oct. 21. No class the week of Thanksgiving.

The fee is $145 and the class is limited to one parent from a co-parenting family.

Are you ready to ‘STEP’ up to the challenge of parenting?

Almaden Valley Counseling Service is accepting registrations for its fall session of positive parenting classes, which begin the week of Oct. 20.

The popular “STEP Positive Parenting Classes: are based on the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) model and are designed to help parents meet the challenges of raising their children.

Participants learn to:

- Build self-esteem and responsibility
- Encourage cooperation and problem solving
- Implement discipline vs. punishment
- Resolve conflicts

The classes are held one night a week for seven weeks, from 7:15 – 9:15 p.m.

The schedule is:

- Preschool age – Monday nights, starting Oct. 20.
- School age – Wednesday nights, starting Oct. 22
- Teenage – Thursday nights, starting Oct. 23

Classes will not be held the week of Thanksgiving.

The fee is $110 for one parent or $165 for a couple.
